review of common tropes to help writer Chud ## woot 10/23/25 (Thu) 02:30:49 96ca55 No. 55443
one of major problems with anime is that it has too many characters. and one of problem with novels I read yesterday is exactly this. I am autist so i like a plot that is unpredictable and adds constant plot twists and pressure valves, so I discovered or will use this post to collect pressure valves for whoever wants to be aspiring writer or just for лiлz. However, I really am parasitic consumer, I like mystery but I hate the conclusion after you discover the truth. After that, I feel very empty and bored out of my mind. First pressure valve is awful villains, the novel I read yesterday Ochikobore Maken-shi no Choukyou Musou which by no means is sophistic work or deserves a read since its generic adult novel with mc being slavemaner or whatever. However, the writing has a few parts that improve it. The main character despite being "scum" is not fully in control of his descision, in other words his only way to become stronger to save his sister is to use his only magical skill to subjucate the noble women. In other words, his sister is kidnapped by evil organization that hates the Empire and wants to destroy society and is pretty self righteous ready to molest girls and so forth to achieve its goal. It keeps him as pawn probably in later story, I assume that thats how it goes and wants to use him to destroy the kingdom because of his subjugation ability. As we can see the evil here is cunning and uses blackmail to control the hero who has no real choice and worstly, literally worse than him in everyway. There is another villain who is basically fate's shinji and its own "sakura" character. But anyway, don't overthink I don't have particular reason to read any gerne of novel i enjoy them all equally okay? lets give better example of Blood C/+ where the main villains cayroptians or whatever are basically unbeatable. The mcs lose to them every GODDAMN EPISODE and only in the end they manage to win against them, meanwhile there is this glboal plan of them exterminating humanity by turning 25% of population into caroptians by using a specific sound wave. PRetty cheesy writing, especially in second half of the story, but since tis novel as well as anime I wantted to use it onthe list, of course there is also portal 2 where wheatley the main helper in the game becomes evil and betrays you making you wonder if he was always like that or maybe… he was broken by GLaDOS coding… with game not leaving particular answer (although his lines hint on the first being true sry guys the game is old so i had to break your heart for this essay), fullmetal alchemsit brotherhood probably is best example too of that, the anime manga gives this feeling that main villains are way too unhinged and powerful. this pressure valve in these 3 last examples hopefully gives overall picture of what orvellian struggle is and how well it works in heroic stories. Maybe a hero neesd to suffer just a little more than in fairy tale. And hope practically disappears, its hard to believe hero will win against such powerful enemies. But the other thing that the novel yesterday did wrong like 99% of ahnime is adding too many characters, does it really matter if he can flex how many women he subjugated if the writing itself is lousy and pedestrian, so it doesn't add up in my head that they were genuine rewards for the MC. The emptiness, the boringness, the void in the story cannot be filled by empty glass of hedonsitic bad writing. Add few characters and develop them, that makes the best story. You don't need to add a lot, but if you do add more then keep them in the background, audience likes it way more, basically add more cahracters who are side characters and appear rarely like Dave the Intern from sonic, characters who dont feel like part of the main cast and dont need to be do their job. However, you can always give them more significance at some point per episode that way keeping sitcom further from ending. Anime makes all characters feel empty inside, and without soul they just sort of exist meaninglessly after end of a story. Concentrate on writing characters, in right smart manner you can give at least 8 episodes per character before they get boring, look at sonic boom as example of simpler sitcom structure to use for your literature or writing. But listen, the writing will eventually get worse, number 3, the feel good subliminal symbols. Like Junko Enoshima, basically i will teach you about subliminal stuff. Example sanrio, the characters are cute. So even if story is kind of boring, as long as its appeasing to look at it at the time it will be more bearable. I think orcs are the opposite, when fantasy uses orcs or goblins it gives me disgust and its so boring/ugly that subliminally i dont want to continue reading not being interested in it. Just like some video gaemes are just so much better so good because of the atmosphere. While others are trash and feel unplayable, that may be my own problem but i think it works for general audience. For example, visual novels use certain types of melodic songs to build atmosphere, it becomes memorable and ends up helping the story mvoe forward even if hte story on its own isnt that good. Thats how umineko managed to pull me. if you have book with illustrations, on one hand your illustrations can make story more subliminal on other hand they might waste space and look dull as well, but for a book think about scenarios or things that will make reader feel good upon finishing, foir example for me I hate action and battles and feel absoltue disconnect with it i mean i know the hero will 90% of time win anyway and they are too lazy, written in way that always ends up giving them upperhand in many bullshit ways. Nobody can write good action sequences so it bores me. with zero logic. but i really like mysterious horror themes in books, where I dont know what is happening and feel a bit unease. So if that atmosphere is kept and created with soul, I think I would be able to enjoy the book etc
